Air Marshal Sir Peter Squire DFC AFC (deceased)

Air Marshal Sir Peter Squire began his operational flying with No. 20 Squadron flying Hunters in Singapore. He became an instructor on the Hunter before flying Gnats as a member of the Red Arrows; later returning to operational flying on the Harrier. In 1981 he took command of No. 1 Squadron at RAF Wittering and during the Falklands conflict, led the Squadron into action for which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He stayed with the Air Force, becoming Chief of Air Staff in 2000 before retirement in 2003. He died on 19th February 2018.

Night Attack by Michael Rondot.

April evening: Wittering, 1993. Seventy five years after the formation of the Royal Air Force, Michael Rondot now portrays the most important new aircraft to enter RAF service, the night-attack Harrier GR7.


GR3 Field Trip by Stuart Brown.

Harrier GR3s of No. 1 squadron in a secluded hide following a field exercise. The unique vertical take off capabilities of the Harrier allow front-line squadrons to deploy from dispersed sites.


Clipped Signature - Sir Peter Squire.

Flew the Hawker Hunter with No.20 Sqn in Singapore before becoming an instructor on the Hunter and a Gnat pilot with the Red Arrows. He returned to operational flying on the Harrier, commanding No.1 Sqn during the Falklands War. He died in 2018.
