Tom Draper Williams
| Squadron Leader Tom Draper Williams DFC (deceased) Tom Williams joined 611 Squadron, Auxiliary Air Force, early in 1939, rejoining after completing his training in April 1940. He served with 611 throughout the Battle of Britain, including the period 611 was part of the Duxford Wing. On September 15, 1940 Williarns shared in the destruction of three Do 17s and on October 11 he shared another. On May 7 1941 he shot down a Bf 109 attacking a British bomber damaged by flak. Williams escorted it back to the English coast at low level. On June 19 he destroyed another Bf 109 and on June 26 he probably destroyed another. He was awarded the DFC on July 15. Tom Williams final score was four confirmed victories. He died on 19th September 2004. |
