Bernard Hyde
| Flt Lt Bernard Hyde (deceased) No.271 Sqn, RAF Down Ampney. As a second Pilot he flew Dakotas during 1944 to 1945 in Burma on many special operations. He died aged 94 on 2nd September 2020. |

6th June 1944 (Dakotas) by Ivan Berryman. As part of Operation Overlord in June 1944, it was necessary to deploy large numbers of troops quickly and accurately to the fields and bridgeheads of Northern France. No aircraft was better suited to dropping paratroopers and their equipment than the ubiquitous Douglas Dakota, these examples being of No.271 Squadron from Down Ampney near Gloucester. |
