Tony Charlie Neve | Sqn Ldr Tony Charlie Neve MBE Was taught German at school and visited Germany as a guest of the Hitler Youth! Having survived the bombing of his home town of Bristol, he decided to retaliate and volunteer for aircrew in September 1942. After a spell of training in Canada as an Air Gunner he returned to England and was posted to No.101 Squadron where he trained and operated as a Special Duties Officer, finally completing 31 Ops. Tony flew in SR-W on 11th November 1944 during a raid on Dortmund. |

Operations On by Philip West. The evening mist begins to settle on the bleak airfield at Ludford Magna, Lincolnshire, as Lancaster aircraft of 101 Squadron taxi out for another dangerous nighttime sortie. The nature of their assignments during the war was a closely guarded secret. The unusual aerials on the front and top of the aircraft were used for intercepting and jamming messages between German fighter aircraft and their ground control. |
